  • McLean, Va. – July 22, 2010 - The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) announces its President and Co-Founder, Joann DiGennaro, has been appointed to the State Council on Higher Education (SCHEV) by Governor Robert F. McDonnell. She will serve a four year term of public service for the Commonwealth of Virginia.

    “Over the last 27 years, my goal has been to raise the gold standard in education through my commitment to the Center for Excellence in Education. I am humbled to serve the Commonwealth of Virginia through my appointment to the State Council on Higher Education,” said Joann DiGennaro, President of CEE.

    As a member of SCHEV, DiGennaro will make recommendations on higher education public policy to the Governor and General Assembly with regard to capital and operating budget planning, enrollment projections, institutional technology needs, and student financial aid.

  • McLean, Va. – July 21, 2010 - The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) announces its President Joann DiGennaro has been selected as a member of Governor Robert F. McDonnell’s Commission on Higher Education Reform, Innovation and Investment for the Commonwealth of Virginia. The commission will focus on:

    • Increasing Educational Attainment
    • Implementing Innovation
    • Ensuring Cost Containment and Predictability
    • Developing Partnerships for Research and Economic Development

  • McLean, Va. – July 19, 2010 - The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) announced today the four member Team USA was awarded three gold medals and one silver medal at the International Biology Olympiad held in Changwon, Korea. Team USA was part of the 233 students from 58 countries who participated in this year’s competition.

    U.S. team members Chelsea Voss (CA), Charles Du (IL), and Eric Liaw (HI) garnered gold medals. Debra Van Egeren (MI) took home a silver medal.

    The scholars were accompanied by Ms. Kathy Frame of the Center for Excellence in Education and Dr. Scott Mills of Purdue University, USA Biology Olympiad (USABO) Coaches. All were flown to Changwon courtesy of Korean Air.

    CEE and Purdue University Announce Team USA 2010

    Top Four U.S. Biology Students to Compete at the Premier International Biology Olympiad in South Korea

    McLean, Va. – June 22, 2010 - The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) announces the four top scoring students at the USA Biology Olympiad national finals which took place at Purdue University. These students will represent the United States as Team USA at the 2010 International Biology Olympiad (IBO) in Changwon, Korea.

    The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) is pleased to announce that the top 20 Finalists have been selected to attend the USA Biology Olympiad (USABO) National Finals at Purdue University. The finalists were selected based on their high scores from the USABO Open Exam and Semifinal Exam. Nearly 11,000 students from across the nation registered for the Open Exam this year.

  • CENTER FOR EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION LAUNCHES THE NATIONAL LAB SKILLS SYMPOSIUM

    CEE Reveals Best Practice Models to Maximize Lab Skills Training for
    Students and Teachers

    McLean, VA –April 07, 2010 - The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) announces the launch of the National Lab Skills Symposium to cultivate the next generation of scientific leaders today with improved practical laboratory skills. The Symposium, underwritten by Life Technologies, will take place at the Holiday Inn Capitol located at 550 C. Street, SW, Washington, DC 20024.

    The Center strives to address the challenges of laboratory instruction and learning in our nation’s science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) classrooms to assure a future talented and diverse U.S. workforce. The National Lab Skills Symposium will unveil exemplary programs of “best practices” in laboratory education.

    McLean, VA – March 2, 2010 - The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) announces leading experts in science education met at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute to create a framework for the April 8-9, 2010 National Lab Skills Symposium to take place at the Holiday Inn Capitol. One of the key areas identified by the committee was preservice teacher training with a focus on how to effectively incorporate laboratory experience design into their teaching.

    CEE’s RSI Alumni are Among this Nation’s Cutting Edge STEM Scholars

    McLean, Virginia – February 4, 2010 –The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) announces seven high school students from its renowned Research Science Institute (RSI) class of 2009 are among the 40 finalists in the highly esteemed Intel Science Talent Search.

    Awards of scholarships by the Intel Science Talent Search are made with the top prize of $100,000. CEE has had more students chosen as Intel honorees and winners than any other U.S. educational organization. To date, CEE’s
    alumni have included eight first-place winners, 125 finalists and 432 semifinalists.

  • CEE ANNOUNCES THE 2010 CONGRESSIONAL LUNCHEON TO BE HELD MARCH 24 ON CAPITOL HILL

    CEE Celebrates the Success of its Educational Programs and Welcomes Members of Congress


    March 23, 2010 - (McLean, VA) - The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE), with sponsorship from SAIC, will host its Annual Congressional Luncheon Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. The event will be held in the historic Russell Senate Caucus Room of the Russell Senate Office Building, Washington DC.

    Senators Joseph Lieberman (CT) and Lindsey Graham (SC),Congressman Eric Cantor (VA), and Congresswoman Jane Harman (CA), CEE Honorary Board Members, along with Senator Mark Begich (AK), will make comments at the event.

  • McLean, Virginia – July 20, 2009 – The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE)announced today the four member Team USA took home four gold medals at the International Biology Olympiad held in Tsukuba,Japan. This marks the third consecutive year the U.S. team garnered this world recognition. Team USA competed with 55 other nations in this year’s prestigious competition.

    U.S. team members Jonathan Liang (MD) and Seungsoo Kim (WA)scored first and second places, respectively, in the world in the theoretical portion of the examination.

  • CENTER FOR EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION’S RSI ALUMNUS TAKES FIRST PLACE IN INTEL COMPETITION

    Four RSI Alumni Place in Top 10 at Prestigious Intel Science Talent Search


    McLean, Virginia – March 13, 2009 – The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) announces that 2008 Research Science Institute (RSI) Alumnus, Eric Kerner Larson of South Eugene High School in Eugene, OR was awarded the $100,000 first place scholarship in the prestigious Intel Science Talent Search. Eric was selected for his innovative research in mathematics concerning the classification of integral fusion categories.

    Mr. Larson began his research at RSI under the guidance of Professor Pavel Etingof and David Jordan of the MIT Mathematics Department. RSI helps nurture young scholars to careers of excellence and leadership in science, technology, engineering, and math.

    McLean, Virginia – January 29, 2009 The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) announced that 10 students of its Research Science Institute (RSI) class of 2008 are among the 40 finalists in the highly esteemed Intel Science Talent Search. The RSI alumni represent this nation’s highest achieving scholars in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

  • United States Scores Big at International Biology Olympiad

    McLean, Va., July 21, 2008 – The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) announced today the four member Team USA took home four gold medals at the International Biology Olympiad held in Mumbai, India. Fifty-five nations competed in this prestigious competition. For the second year in a row, the U.S. team garnered world recognition.

    The U.S. gold medal winners at IBO 2008 are:

    CEE is pleased to declare that every U.S. team member has medaled in the international competition since 2003, bringing home sixteen gold, six silver and two bronze medals.

  • Science and Technology in the Next Generation

    McLean, VA, September 22, 2008— The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) and Booz Allen Hamilton will host a panel discussion, From Education to Enterprise: Science and Technology in the Next Generation. The discussion will take place on Friday, September 26, 2008, from 12:00 to 1:00 pm in Booz Allen’s Newman Auditorium at 8283 Greensboro Drive in McLean, VA, followed by a reception. Participants can also attend remotely via a live webcast.

    The rapid pace of scientific and technologic advances has dramatically increased the importance of education as the engine of the modern, globally competitive enterprise. The distinguished members of this panel will discuss the vital issue of science and technology education, and answer questions as part of the moderated session.
