CEE and the Claude Moore Charitable Foundation Sponsor Bite of Science Dinner Event to
Strengthen Science Teaching
McLean, VA – February 24, 2014 – The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) and the Claude Moore Charitable Foundation will sponsor a Bite of Science professional development session, cost-free, for high school teachers on Tuesday, February 25, 2014. Jefferson College of Health Sciences will host this event in the Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital located at 101 Elm Avenue in Roanoke, Virginia. The Bite of Science will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for science teachers who wish to broaden their perspective of science in their classroom.
The mission of the Teacher Enrichment Program is to assure a future talented and diverse U.S. workforce in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). It focuses on best practices and resources, as well as exposure to the breadth and depth of scientific discovery often not available to rural and urban high school teachers and their students. The Bite of Science professional development opportunities for teachers are estimated to impact at least 3,400 Roanoke area students in 2014.
The Teacher Enrichment Program will provide content and information for teachers to engage students to pursue careers in science and technology.

The Bite of Science speakers will discuss their work and relate it back to the classroom for the teachers.

- Furnish the opportunity for teachers to ask questions and to interact directly with scientists and engineerse
- Foster excitement in teachers to create an interest in students for STEM fields
- Inform teachers so they have a better understanding of research and development
- Allow teachers the opportunity to network with their peers
