The Center for Excellence in Education and AMGEN Foundation Sponsor Teacher Training Program
Teacher Roundtable Event in Long Beach to Strengthen Science Teaching and STEM Career Awareness
McLean, VA – February 10, 2016 – The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) and AMGEN Foundation will sponsor a Teacher Roundtable professional enrichment event, cost-free, for middle and high school teachers on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 in Long Beach, CA. This STEM Teacher Roundtable, CEE’s first in Los Angeles, will be hosted by DeVry University and held at the DeVry University Long Beach campus located at 3880 Kilroy Airport Way in Long Beach. The Roundtable will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. for STEM teachers who wish to broaden their perspective of science in their classroom and excite their students towards STEM careers and opportunities.
The mission of the Teacher Enrichment Program (TEP) is to assure a future talented and diverse U.S. workforce in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). TEP provides rural and urban underserved middle and high school teachers the opportunity to connect with experts from industry and academia to explore cutting-edge research and make meaningful professional links with direct benefits for their students. TEP was introduced to Los Angeles area teachers in 2013.
STEM Teacher Roundtables are forums to connect industry representatives with teachers to create awareness of STEM career fields, the job skills required for the 21st century STEM worker, and opportunities for their students to explore STEM subjects and career paths. Professional development opportunities for teachers to further their STEM content knowledge are also discussed.

They have provided a unique opportunity for teachers to connect with local companies, organizations, and universities to broaden their perspective of science and engineering in the classroom and learn about the wide variety of STEM careers and opportunities available to their students,” says Natasha Schuh-Nuhfer, Ph.D., Director of TEP. “The Center looks forward to hosting the first California STEM Teacher Roundtable in Los Angeles after three very successful years of conducting TEP Bite of Science sessions for the underserved middle and high school science teachers of Los Angeles County”
