USABO

In 2004, Team USA brought home four gold medals for the first time in USABO history

In 2002, the Center developed and implemented the first-ever USA Biology Olympiad (USABO) to train future leaders in the biological sciences.

This program concentrates on stimulating young scholars’ intellectual curiosity and developing their critical thinking skills in biological reasoning, and culminates with the U.S. Team’s participation in the International Biology Olympiad. In its second year, the U.S. Team won an unprecedented four gold medals in Brisbane, Australia, a feat accomplished for the first time in Biology Olympiad history. Each Team USA Member has medaled since the United States first began competing at the IBO in 2003.

An extension of the USABO, the interactive online Teacher Resource Center (TRC) provides teachers with detailed study guides, previous USABO exams, and other helpful science teaching materials.  The TRC helps all U.S. teachers to raise the bar of excellence in biology, particularly important for teachers in rural and inner city schools.
