Teacher Roundtable Event in Greenville to Strengthen Science Teaching and STEM Career Awareness
Education nonprofit presents a STEM Teacher Roundtable in Greenville, SC
McLean, Va. – September 6, 2016 – The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) and the Children’s Museum of the Upstate will host a STEM Teacher Roundtable professional enrichment event, cost-free, for middle and high school teachers on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 in Greenville, SC. This Teacher Roundtable, will be held at the Children's Museum of the Upstate in the Big Idea Board Room, located at 300 College St, Greenville, SC. The Roundtable will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. for STEM teachers who wish to broaden their perspective of science in their classroom and excite their students towards STEM careers and opportunities.
The mission of the Teacher Enrichment Program (TEP) is to assure a future talented and diverse U.S. workforce in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). TEP provides rural and urban underserved middle and high school teachers the opportunity to connect with experts from industry and academia to explore cutting-edge research and make meaningful professional links with direct benefits for their students.
STEM Teacher Roundtables are forums to connect industry, academic and government representatives with teachers to create awareness of STEM career fields, the job skills required for the 21st century STEM worker, and opportunities for their students to explore STEM subjects and career paths. Professional development opportunities for teachers to further their STEM content knowledge are also discussed.

They have provided a unique opportunity for teachers to connect with local companies, organizations, and universities to broaden their perspective of science and engineering in the classroom and learn about the wide variety of STEM careers and opportunities available to their students,” says Natasha Schuh-Nuhfer, Ph.D., Director of TEP.
“Being involved in the TEP Teacher Roundtable was an experience I truly cherish,” said Teacher Roundtable presenter, Rebecca Wood, Forensic Investigator at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Washington, D.C. “It allowed me to connect with other educators in the STEM fields and learn from them more useful ways for the professional community to be involved with our next generation, the students.”

The goals of the Teacher Enrichment Program are to:
- Provide teachers with professional enrichment opportunities
- Furnish the opportunity for teachers to ask questions and to interact directly with scientists and engineers
- Foster excitement in teachers to create an interest in students for STEM fields through engagement with STEM professionals in and outside of the classroom
- Inform teachers so they have a better understanding of research and development
- Create awareness of the skills and knowledge needed for the 21st Century STEM worker
- Allow teachers the opportunity to network with their peers
