RSI 2014 Alumni Win Big at Siemens

McLean, Virginia – December 10, 2014 – The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) announces Peter Tian, 2014 Research Science Institute Alumnus, was awarded the $100,000 Grand Prize in the Individual Category at the Siemens Competition.  His project focused on mathematical research on pattern avoidance for multidimensional matrices and was titled External Functions of Forbidden Multidimensional Matrices.  Mr. Tian is a senior and attends The Wellington School in Columbus, Ohio.

Anvita Gupta, RSI’14 Alumna garnered a $10,000 scholarship for her research,   A Novel Method for Targeting Intrinsically Disordered Proteins for Drug Discovery:  Application to Cancer and Tuberculosis.  Ms. Gupta is a senior at BASIS Scottsdale located in Scottsdale, Arizona.

The Siemens Competition in Math, Science & Technology, a signature program of the Siemens Foundation, is administered by Discovery Education. The 15th annual awards were presented on December 9th at The George Washington University, host of the 2014 Siemens Competition National Finals.  

“My sincerest congratulations to Peter for winning this year’s Siemens Competition in the Individual Category,” said Joann DiGennaro, President, Center for Excellence in Education.  “I also am extremely proud of Anvita Gupta for her achievement of the $10,000 scholarship award.  CEE’s RSI Alumni have demonstrated their steadfast commitment to excellence in STEM.”
