CEE to Host Webinar on STEM in Space

McLean, Va., March 9, 2023 – The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) presents “It’s Not Rocket Science: NASA Breaks Barriers,” a free webinar on Thursday, March 9, 2023, 5:00-6:15 p.m. ET via Zoom. Join educators in professional enrichment from STEM professionals and experts in industry, academia, and government to explore STEM in space! Session speakers will explain the science behind aerospace careers and identify helpful tools for students who are interested in space. This is part of CEE’s monthly “Bite of Science” series hosted by the Teacher Enrichment Program (TEP). Register online.

Distinguished speakers:

Jennifer Becerra, EdD is a Program Specialist at NASA Johnson Space Center. She enjoys inspiring and connecting students and educators to explore opportunities in STEM. She studied teacher education at University of the Incarnate Word, earned an MA in Curriculum and Instruction in Science Education from Our Lady of the Lake University, and earned an EdD in Curriculum and Instruction at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.

Seth Gordon, PhD is Sr. Principal Systems Engineer Northrop Grumman. He earned a BS in mechanical and aerospace engineering from Princeton University, and a master’s degree and PhD in Aerospace Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology. He is a 2008 alum of CEE’s Research Science Institute.

 

Kelly McCarthy is an Education Program Specialist in NASA’s Office of STEM Engagement where she leads and supports K-12 and Higher Education STEM initiatives, including activities aligned with the Artemis Missions that will return humans to the Moon and beyond. Kelly earned a BS in Physics from Penn State University and her instructional certificate from the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education.

Conrad Poelman, PhD is Chief Scientist and Owner, Stellar Science Ltd Co. He previously served as a Major in the U.S. Air Force. He earned a BS in Computer Science and a BS in Aerospace Engineering from MIT and earned a PhD in Computer Science Carnegie Mellon University. He is a 1985 alum of CEE’s Research Science Institute.

CEE’s Teacher Enrichment Program provides unique STEM opportunities for high school teachers to take back to their classrooms. All TEP resources and professional development events are cost-free to participants. To date, 4,500 teachers from over 1,400 schools have participated.
