USABO 2018 & 2019 Class Reunion, 4/25/20  Hosts: Sabrina Cai, Lucy Zou, Atharv Oak

Alumni of CEE’s USA Biolympiad (USABO) from 2018 & 2019 met virtually on Saturday, April 25, 2020. These most recent alumni were excited to reconnect and compare notes about their activities while they are social distancing. Alumni attending college advised high school students on choosing colleges and majors, and offered tips on transitioning. 

Discussion also explored individual career interests, which included a number of biology-related fields. The group is hopeful that the coronavirus pandemic will help people realize the value of biology, as many USABO alums would love to improve health care policy and science education. All had a great time sharing memories and catching up!

RSI 1995 Class Reunion, 4/25/20 Host: Rachna Shroff

   

Alumni of CEE’s RSI class of 1995 celebrated the 25th anniversary of their summer together by meeting again virtually on Saturday, April 25, 2020. The group was grateful to catch up and relive some memories from RSI 1995, including the Fourth of July party and trip to the mountains. A review of their 1995 fantastic superlatives list provided a good laugh for all.

All agreed their RSI summer was one of the most memorable and formative summers of their childhood. Alumni shared their successes as professors, start-up entrepreneurs, IT and marketing professionals, lawyers, finance leaders, doctors, and more who participated in the remote meeting format. The group agreed to continue these "meet ups" periodically to stay apprised of each other's movements and lives.

Ms. D’s Annual Holiday Party, 12/21/2019

Nearly 80 CEE Alumni, Trustees, staff, and Friends of CEE gathered in December for Ms. D’s Annual Holiday Party in her home. CEE President Joann DiGennaro welcomed the alumni and guests and gave an update on the state of the Center.

CEE in Seattle, WA: 11/14/19

CEE’s first alumni event in Washington State was hosted by Madrona Venture Partners and Sid Shenai, CEE Trustee (RSI ’99). Admiral Bill Owens, CEE Trustee, provided remarks to the guests.  It was a terrific networking opportunity for alumni at Universities and those employed at companies in the Seattle area.

'Celebrate CEE' in Palo Alto, CA, 10/17/19

Alumni and friends met in Palo Alto, CA for a festive evening of networking sponsored by Arvind Parthasarathi (RSI ’90), CEE Trustee. Alums spanned RSI and USABO from years 1986 to 2019. Rich Simon (RSI ’86) and Dana Caulder (RSI ’89) spoke about the 2019-2020 Alumni Annual Fund and the benefits received from CEE as an alum of their program.

 
   

'Celebrate CEE' in Boston, MA, 10/03/19

Alumni and friends of CEE’s STEM programs were hosted by Accenture’s Boston Innovation Hub. Guests enjoyed camaraderie, food, and networking with alumni of the Research Science Institute (RSI) and the USA Biolympiad (USABO).

Dan Elron, Accenture’s Managing Director of Corporate Strategy, Innovation and Technology, delivered thought-provoking comments, “Why Can’t We Innovate? The challenges and opportunities of large organizations.” Brien Wheeler (RSI ’85), Chair of the alumni campaign, spoke about the importance of alumni support. Accenture’s sponsorship for the event was made possible by Mark Knickrehm, Group Chief Executive – Accenture Strategy, husband of Diana (Detwiler) Knickrehm (RSI ’84).

'Celebrate CEE' in Los Angeles, CA, 4/18/19

Alumni of the Center for Excellence in Education’s (CEE) programs for STEM students and teachers, parents, trustees and guests gathered on April 18, 2019 to ‘Celebrate CEE’ in Los Angeles.  Hosted by CEE Trustee Cara Esposito in her lovely home, guests enjoyed camaraderie, food, and networking with alumni of the Research Science Institute (RSI), the USA Biology Olympiad (USABO), and the Teacher Enrichment Program (TEP).

Richard Edlund, former CEE Trustee and four-time Academy Award winner for special effects in (Star Wars, Ghostbusters, Poltergeist, etc.), shared his thoughts on AI’s impact on the entertainment industry, and also reflected on the success of the Star Wars franchise.  CEE President Joann DiGennaro provided an update on the exciting activities of the Center, recognized the outstanding accomplishments of CEE alumni, and applauded the impact of the Center’s teacher program.

         

Ms. D’s Annual Holiday Party, 12/16/17

Nearly 80 CEE Alumni, Trustees, staff, and Friends of CEE gathered on December 16, 2017 for Ms. D’s Annual Holiday Party. The event was hosted in her home outside Washington, DC and brought together RSI and USABO alumni from ’84, ’85, ’86, ‘89, ’91, ’97, ’00, ’04, ’16, and ’17 classes. CEE Trustees Mark Kantrowitz (RSI’84), Clarine Nardi Riddle, and Ross Grossman also attended.

CEE President Joann DiGennaro welcomed the alumni and guests and gave an update on the state of the Center. Clarine Nardi Riddle offered remarks on behalf of CEE Trustees. RSI and USABO alumni spent the night catching up, meeting new alumni, and reminiscing about their days at RSI and USABO. This was the biggest-ever gathering of Rickoids for Ms. D’s annual year-end party. Watch Video

     

 


Alumni Reunion in New York, NY, 11/10/17

Nearly 40 CEE alumni gathered on November 10, 2017 for a Special CEE Reunion Event at the Harvard Club in New York City. The event was hosted by Regeneron Pharmaceuticals and included remarks by CEE Trustee Ross Grossman, retired Senior Vice President, HR, Regeneron. Alumni were present from the ’84, ’89, ’91, ’95, ’98, ’00, ’01, ’02, ’03, ’04, ’05, ’07, ’08, ’09, and ’14 classes. CEE President Joann DiGennaro gave an update on the state of the Center; and Lyndon Mitnaul, Director, R&D Planning Strategy and Operations at Regeneron, spoke about the work and research culture of Regeneron.

 


Alumni Reunion in Cambridge, MA, 11/3/17

More than 60 CEE alumni gathered on November 3, 2017 for a Special CEE Alumni Reunion Event at the Catalyst Restaurant in Cambridge, MA. The event was hosted by Regeneron Pharmaceuticals and included remarks by CEE Trustee Ross Grossman, retired Senior Vice President, HR, Regeneron. Alumni were present from the ‘84, ‘87, ‘90, ‘91, ‘93,‘95, ‘97, ‘98, ‘99, ‘00, ’02, ‘04, ‘07, ‘08, ‘10, ‘11, ‘13, ‘14, ‘15, ‘16, and ‘17 classes. CEE President Joann DiGennaro gave an update on the state of the Center; and Wendy Sharif-Rodriguez, Research Associate at Regeneron, spoke about the work and research culture of Regeneron.

           
           
 

Alumni Dinner in Cambridge, MA, 7/20/17

About 20 CEE alumni gathered on July 20, 2017 for a Special CEE Alumni Dinner at the Catalyst Restaurant in Cambridge, MA. The event was hosted by CEE Trustees and RSI Alumni Sid Shenai and Feng Zhang. CEE President, Joann DiGennaro gave an update on the state of the Center; Feng Zhang spoke about new uses for Crispr in editing RNA to treat diseases like Ebola and Zika. Finally, Shenai challenged the attendees to remember the life-changing experiences afforded by their participation in CEE programs by making a gift to CEE’s endowment Campaign.

Alumni Reunion in Washngton, DC, 6/30/17

More than 20 CEE alumni gathered on June 30, 2017 for a Special CEE Alumni Reunion Event at the United Technologies Corporation in Washington, DC. The event was hosted by CEE Trustee Dr. J. Michael McQuade, Senior Vice President, Science and Technology, United Technologies Corporation. Alumni were present from the ‘86, ‘88, ‘91, ‘94, ‘04, ‘11, ‘15, ‘16, and ‘17 classes. CEE President, Joann DiGennaro gave an update on the state of the Center; and Dr. McQuade spoke about how urbanization, growth of the middle class, and carbon emissions affect the world and how UTC works to meet these challenges.
