CEE to Host Webinar on STEM in Sports

McLean, Va. January 20, 2023 – The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) presents “Slam Dunk!: How is STEM Useful in Sports,” a free webinar that illustrates the interdisciplinary nature of STEM and the real-world applications of STEM skills. This is part of CEE’s monthly “Bite of Science” series hosted by its Teacher Enrichment Program (TEP). This virtual program takes place on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, 5:00-6:15 p.m. ET via Zoom. Distinguished speakers:

Aaron Barzilai, Ph.D., is the Founder of Her Hoop Stats and the former Director of Basketball Analytics for the Philadelphia 76ers. Aaron served as the Chief Data Officer for WinnersView, a media startup focused on Sports Analytics and storytelling. As an independent consultant with a focus on Data Science, his clients include the NBA Office, NBA teams and agents. He earned a B.S. from MIT, where he played varsity basketball and served as co-captain his senior year. Aaron holds a Ph.D. and MS in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University.

Maya Ganesan is a manager in the Global Strategy & Innovation group at the NBA, where she works on large, cross-functional strategic projects across the league office. Prior to the NBA, she worked at the consulting firm McKinsey & Company, supporting companies on topics relating to growth, transformation, and business building. Maya holds a B.A. in Economics with Honors from Stanford University.

 

CEE’s Teacher Enrichment Program provides unique STEM opportunities for high school teachers to take back to their classrooms. All TEP resources and professional development events are cost-free to participants. To date, more than 4,000 teachers from over 1,400 schools have participated. The program has reached nearly 600,000 underserved rural and urban students to consider STEM careers. Recordings of presentations for teachers are catalogued on YouTube.
