The Center for Excellence in Education, in partnership with Tsinghua University, inaugurated the Research Science Initiative 2015 in China. National and international university rankings place Tsinghua amongst the top global universities. This is the first research program collaboration of Tsinghua with a U.S. organization to focus on high ability high school students. Microsoft’s Research Lab in Beijing hosted the students for a visit and to learn from engineers and the lab.

The Research Science Initiative in Saudi Arabia, sponsored in partnership with CEE, the University of Dammam, The King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (MAWHIBA), and Saudi Aramco, will serve 50 high-achieving middle school girls. This is the first Saudi Arabia program for young girls that encourages science, technology, engineering and mathematical (STEM) studies.

CEE has partnered with more than 51 other countries with collaborative agreements. The Center was the first U.S. organization to receive high school students from: People’s Republic of China, India, and the Balkan and Baltic nations. RSI programs are in Bulgaria, China, India, Israel, Saudi Arabia, and Singapore.

Research Science Institute China – The Center, in collaboration with Fudan University in Shanghai and the Shanghai Educational Press Group, sponsored RSI China in 2006 for 35 of Shanghai’s top math and science students. RSI China marked the first time ever that a U.S. non-governmental organization had been approved to sponsor a high school program with a Chinese university. STEM programming with China has established a relationship to learn and benefit from each other to nurture excellence in education.

The High School Students Institute of Mathematics and Informatics (HSSI) Bulgaria – The creation of HSSI is the long-term collaboration between the Center for Excellence in Education and the International Foundation St. Cyril and St. Methodius in Sofia, Bulgaria. The mission of HSSI is to implement RSI-like academic activities in Bulgaria. The program hosts academically talented high school students for research experience in mathematics and computer sciences, and assists students on a long-term basis to become leaders in science and technology.

SciTech Israel – The Center for Excellence in Education worked closely with Israel to establish SciTech for pre-university education and is hosted each summer at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology.  This program is intended for eleventh and twelfth grade high school students who have demonstrated an exceptional interest and ability in science and technology. It is a 3 to 4 week program for gifted high school students that combines scientific research with a program of cultural and social activities.

Applied Research Science Institute (ARSI) Africa – CEE inaugurated this program at the University of Botswana and provided refurbished computers for Master Teachers. The ARSI-Africa project reached Namibia, Botswana, and Mozambique students and teachers. The goal of the initiative was to help Afri-can teachers and students learn computer skills for science and math research opportunities.

Research Science Initiative India – The Center launched the first-ever Research Science Initiative in Chennai, India to nurture India’s young high school scholars to careers of excellence and leadership in science and technology. The India RSI is an intensive four-week program held at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras in collaboration with the PSBB Group of Schools and all secondary schools in  Chennai. The annual research program is planned for expansion to reach other Indian cities. RSI India alumni have the opportunity to network with RSI-USA, China and Bulgaria scholars through an active alumni network.

Research Science Institute at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) – CEE  inaugurated RSI at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia.  Partners include Mawhiba Training Center for gifted and talented students and Saudi Aramco. The six-week institute combines classroom training and research mentorships for Saudi Arabia’s highly talented science and math students between their third and fourth year of high school.

Singapore Program Modeled after RSI – In 1986, Joann DiGennaro, President of CEE, consulted with the Ministry of Education in Singapore to establish gifted and talented science, technology, engineering and mathematics programming for high school students. The Ministry of Education subsequently established advanced curricula in math and science and a summer research program for high achieving students. The RSI model was utilized as the basis for their Initiative.
