CEE Program Alumni Named Coca-Cola Scholars

McLean, Va. (February 16, 2024) — The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) announces that five of CEE’s Research Science Institute (RSI) 2023 alumni are among the 150 high school seniors who are named Coca-Cola Scholars.

“These young scholars are building upon the extraordinary RSI experience as scholars,” said Joann DiGennaro, CEE President. “I am so very proud of these students who represent the future of U.S. global leadership in science and technology.”

The RSI alumni named as finalists are: Aiden Ackerman, Stuyvesant High School, New York, NY; Chelsea Hu, BASIS Independent McLean, McLean, VA; Katherine Murphy, Shawnee Mission East High School, Prairie Village, KS; Gautam Ray, Jackson Academy, Jackson, MS; and Andy Yang, Dutch Fork High School, Irmo, SC.

Each student conducted original, innovative research at RSI, which is collaboratively sponsored with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). RSI is widely recognized as the most prestigious international summer research program in the world for high school students. To date, over 3,000 high school students representing every U.S. state and 61 nations have experienced RSI. CEE alumni enjoy networking and enrichment activities throughout their collegiate and professional careers. CEE’s 2024 RSI will be in session from June 23 to August 3 on the campus of MIT. Coca-Cola Scholars were selected from an initial pool of 103,800+ applications from across the country. Each Coca-Cola Scholar receives a $20,000 college scholarship and joins a family of 6,900+ alumni. The scholars will attend Coca-Cola Scholars Weekend in Atlanta April 25-28, 2024, where they will be the guests of honor at the 36th annual Coca-Cola Scholars Banquet and participate in the Coca-Cola Scholars Leadership Development Institute facilitated by program alumni. Collectively, the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation (CCSF) will award $3.1 million in college scholarships to these outstanding young leaders. With the addition of the 2024 class, CCSF will have provided more than 6,900 Coke Scholars nationwide with more than $84 million in scholarships over the course of 36 years.
