McLean, Va. (December 1, 2021) – The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) is pleased to announce that the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation recently approved a $100,000 grant to support CEE’s Teacher Enrichment Program (TEP). TEP provides professional development workshops, connections to a national science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) network, and classroom resources to teachers in underserved rural and urban districts.
“The Center is deeply grateful to the Benedum Foundation for this grant,” said Center president, Joann P. DiGennaro. “Through this generosity, we will be able to reach even more teachers with our STEM programming.”
The Benedum Foundation grant will enable TEP to:
- Engage 250 West Virginia and southwest Pennsylvania STEM teachers through state-of-the-art STEM-based workshops, year-long outreach, and digital classroom resources.
- Increase STEM education quality and STEM career interests of more than 35,000 underserved rural and urban students.
- Serve at least 500 students directly through virtual college and career panels.
CEE, through its Teacher Enrichment Program (TEP), brings extensive experience connecting rural and urban high school teachers to experts from industry and academia with meaningful professional links to benefit underserved students. TEP workshops and resources, including Bite of Science and the online Lab Bench, have been provided cost-free to teachers in 10 states and the District of Columbia to access and use in the classroom. To date, nearly 4,000 teachers from 1,600 schools have participated. After each TEP program event, teachers are provided resources to take back to their classrooms. The Center’s TEP program has reached more than 680,000 underserved rural and urban students to consider STEM careers.
