CEE’s Research Science Institute Alumni Named 2022 U.S. Presidential Scholars

McLean, Va. (May 19, 2022) – The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) announces that seven CEE Research Science Institute (RSI) alumni are among the high school seniors named U.S. Presidential Scholars for their accomplishments in academics, the arts, and career and technical education fields.

“I am so proud of these RSI Alumni,” said Joann P. DiGennaro, CEE President. “They personify excellence.”

The White House Commission on Presidential Scholars selects honored scholars annually based on their academic success, artistic and technical excellence, essays, school evaluations and transcripts, as well as a demonstrated commitment to community service and leadership.

The following RSI ’21 alumni are members of the 58th Class of U.S. Presidential Scholars:

  • Alice Z. Guo, Morgantown, West Virginia - Morgantown High School
  • Yewon Lee, Madison, Alabama - James Clemens High School
  • Ashini Modi, Shreveport, Louisiana - Caddo Parish Magnet High School
  • Dheepthi Mohanraj, Chapel Hill, North Carolina - The North Carolina School of Science & Mathematics
  • Dhruv Bhandarkar Pai, Potomac, Maryland - Montgomery Blair High School
  • David Ziqi Yan, Hockessin, Delaware - The Charter School of Wilmington
  • Gary Zhan, North Logan, Utah - Logan High School

The Presidential Scholars Class of 2022 will be recognized for their outstanding achievement this summer. Created in 1964, the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program has honored more than 7,900 of the nation’s top-performing students. The program was expanded in 1979 to recognize students who demonstrate exceptional talent in the visual, literary, and performing arts. In 2015, the program was again extended to recognize students who demonstrate ability and accomplishment in career and technical education fields.

About Research Science Institute

CEE’s Research Science Institute (RSI) is a summer science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) program collaboratively sponsored with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology that combines on-campus course work in scientific theory with off-campus research in science and technology. Students conduct original, cutting-edge research in state-of-the-art university laboratories, hospitals, and corporate research facilities. Students make oral and written presentations based on their research during the last week of the program. RSI is offered at no cost to all students competitively selected to attend.
