New STEM Lyceums Webinar on Careers in Medicine

CEE offers exciting free virtual STEM Lyceums program for high school students.

McLean, Va. (October 23, 2023) – The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) is offering high school students “From Molecules to Medicine, Pathways in Pharmaceutics and Therapeutics,” a cost-free opportunity to learn about science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) careers on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, from 4:30-5:45 p.m. ET. Distinguished speakers are:

Emmeline Blanchard, PhD, is a senior research scientist at Spark Therapeutics, specializing in gene therapies for hemophilia and genetic diseases. With a background in cell biology, virology, and microscopy, she excels in experimental design and collaborative research. Dr. Blanchard’s academic foundation includes a BS in Bioengineering from the University of Pittsburgh, where she conducted research and taught as a TA. Dr. Blanchard completed her PhD in Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Tech, where her postdoctoral work focused on respiratory syncytial virus and influenza A virus. During her academic journey, she served as an NSF graduate research fellow, NIH GTBiomaterials trainee, and teaching assistant. She also mentored an undergraduate researcher and led the Women in Biomedical Engineering (wBME) group.

Susan Lee is a partner in Goodwin's Life Sciences group and Life Sciences Regulatory & Compliance practice. Susan advises innovative biologics and drug companies on FDA regulatory and compliance matters that arise in the development and commercialization of new products and indications. She draws on her broad expertise to provide strategic advice in the context of investigations, litigation, corporate transactions, and securities disclosures. Susan has experience with FDA matters that arise in due diligence, SEC filings and press releases, licensing and collaboration agreements, and agreements with distributors, specialty pharmacies, CRO/CMOs, consultants and other key partners. She earned an A.B. in Biology from Harvard University and a J.D. Harvard Law School. Susan is a 1991 alum of CEE’s Research Science Institute.

This online seminar is part of CEE’s STEM Lyceums, a virtual club for high school students to learn about STEM professions and career pathways, provided at no cost to schools or students. Industry professionals share innovative research and offer unique learning experiences, internship opportunities, and scholarship offerings for STEM learners. Meetings foster critical thinking skills, encourage excitement for science, and prepare students to enter STEM careers.
