New STEM Lyceums Webinar on Data Science and Cybersecurity

CEE offers exciting free virtual STEM Lyceums program for high school students  

McLean, Va., December 12, 2022 – The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) is offering high school students a cost-free opportunity to learn about science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) careers on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, from 4:00-5:15 p.m. ET by attending the webinar on the theme of data science and cybersecurity. The guest speakers are:

Ms. Blythe Davis is a User Experience Designer and Researcher at Anaconda, Inc., the popular data science platform and the foundation of modern machine learning. She earned her B.S. at Duke University and her M.A. from Stony Brook University – both in mathematics. Before joining the UX Team, Blythe worked as a Data Scientist at Anaconda. She is a 2015 CEE Research Science Institute alum.

Dr. Davina Pruitt-Mentle serves as the Lead for Academic Engagement of the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Dr. Pruitt-Mentle has spent the past 20 years conducting research on student and educator cyberawareness and developing programs to help increase the cybersecurity workforce pipeline. She earned a B.S. from Virginia Tech, an M.Ed. from Lynchburg College, and a Ph.D. in Educational Technology Policy from the University of Maryland.

This virtual event is part of CEE’s STEM Lyceums, a series of monthly virtual meetings that engage high school students in discussion and exploration of STEM concepts and unique STEM career pathways, provided at no cost to schools or students. Students interact with STEM professionals and fellow students, both national and international. Meetings foster critical thinking skills, encourage excitement for science, and prepare students to enter STEM careers.
