New STEM Program to Discuss Clean/Renewable Energy

CEE offers exciting free virtual STEM program for high school students  

McLean, Va. (April 6, 2022) – The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) is offering high school students a cost-free opportunity to learn about science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) careers on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, from 5-6 p.m. ET via Zoom. This month’s theme is clean/renewable energy. View the recording on YouTube.

Distinguished speakers include:

Paula Sanjines, P.E. is Senior Wastewater Treatment Technologist at Jacobs with over twenty years of experience in the planning, design, construction, and operation of wastewater treatment systems. She has focused her career on the development and implementation of advanced wastewater treatment technologies for nutrient removal and resource recovery. She has also worked on climate change action plans and adaptation strategies for several utilities. She earned a BS in chemical engineering and an MS in civil engineering at Stanford University. 

Jeffery R. Sampson is a Construction Project Manager in the Project Construction – Renewable Energy Group at Dominion Energy. At Dominion Energy, he leads the pre-construction team consisting of project leaders, project engineers, permitting specialists, and performance engineers in support of utility scale solar generation project permitting for transmission and distribution interconnected projects. Additionally, he has over 25 years of experience managing site construction of utility-scale solar generation facilities for Dominion Energy and large-scale capital projects as a manufacturing engineering manager in the automotive and heavy industrial industries. Jeffery earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Old Dominion University.

This virtual event is part of CEE’s STEM Lyceums, a series of monthly virtual meetings that engage high school students in discussion and exploration of STEM concepts and unique STEM career pathways, provided at no cost to schools or students. Students interact with STEM professionals and fellow students, both national and international. Meetings foster critical thinking skills, encourage excitement for science, and prepare students to enter STEM careers. CEE’s STEM Lyceums partners include Virginia Bio, United Negro College Fund, and the Urban League of Hampton Roads.
