Virginia’s Secretary of Education to Introduce STEM Lyceums

Event to kick off CEE’s free virtual STEM program for high school students

McLean, Va. (February 21, 2022) – The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) is pleased to announce that Aimee Rogstad Guidera, Secretary of Education for the Commonwealth of Virginia, will be the keynote speaker at a virtual event inaugurating CEE’s STEM Lyceums. The Center’s STEM Lyceums are a new program for rural and urban high school students that will nurture student interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) careers. The free STEM Lyceums kickoff event is on Thursday, February 24, 2022, from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm ET via Zoom. Tune in by registering online at

Ms. Guidera is a national expert on the use of data in education policy. Prior to her appointment, she was the head of the Guidera Strategy consulting firm and a former founder and leader of the Data Quality Campaign, a national nonprofit that advocates for using data to shape education.

Before founding DQC, Ms. Guidera served as the director of the Washington, DC office of the National Center for Educational Achievement. She previously was the vice president and chief of staff for the National Alliance of Business (NAB), worked in the education division of the National Governors Association’s Center for Best Practices, and taught for the Japanese Ministry of Education. Aimee received her bachelor's degree from Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs and earned a master’s degree in public policy from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.

CEE recently announced it will partner with Virginia Bio to establish and sponsor STEM Lyceums in Virginia’s rural and urban high schools to provide information and hands-on activities that encourage STEM studies and careers in science and technology. The United Negro College Fund and the Urban League of Hampton Roads will also partner in taking this project beyond Virginia to high schools throughout the U.S.
